27 December 2006 WorldMate 2007 released for smartphone
Mobile travel service provider MobiMate has this week announced the release of its WorldMate 2007 Professional Edition software for the Palm Treo 680 smartpone, software aimed at frequent travellers, such as those with annual travel insurance.
The company reports that the software uses the Treo phone to provide flight schedules and status, itinerary planning, global weather forecasts using satellite imagery together with times around the world.
Mike Rank, direct of developer relations at Palm, said: "WorldMate's range of services is ideally suited to the needs of business travellers and frequent fliers, giving them important information on the go in an easy-to-use format."
The Treo 680 smartphone is designed to work within wireless service coverage and is compatible with GSM, GPRS and Edge standards.
In August, multi trip insurance provider Norwich Union warned that 26 per cent of Britons would leave their possessions unattended when going for a swim or purchasing ice cream at the beach.
The company noted that a number of gadgets including mobile phones and digital cameras can push the value of a beach bag to an average of £555.
