08 February 2007 Valentine couples warned on spending abroad
Couples planning on purchasing annual travel insurance and heading to Europe this Valentine's Day have been urged to think carefully when considering using their credit card abroad.
Many credit cards charge a 2.75 per cent levy on foreign currency transactions, while some retailers use a system of dynamic currency conversion (DCC) to thrust poor exchange rates on purchasers, Find.co.uk reports.
A spokesperson from building society and multi trip insurance provider Nationwide commented that the company always recommends that its customers pay for purchases in the local currency of the country they are in.
"If DCC is used without your consent, you should report this to us and we will pass on the complaint to Visa," he added.
During February, GLA Hotels is offering a special Valentine's package for couples in Paris at the Hotel Lancaster.
Included in the package is a complimentary upgrade, bottle of pink champagne, Hospes Lancester lover's box and Valentine's breakfast.
