06 February 2007 UNTWO and WISeKey announces launch of YouTourist
The United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) and WISeKey have announced an agreement for the expansion of the use of authentication and traveller identification technology for the purposes of an online travel experience sharing facility.
YouTourist, an e-tourism social network, will allow tourists to contact one another to offer travel resources and advice, and is based on the WISeKey digital identification and Microsoft Cardspace technology systems.
UNWTO Global Code of Ethics for Tourism will guide the exchange of information between destinations, governments, tour operators, travel agents and travellers.
Photographs, videos and comments will be able to be exchanged over the YouTourist system, with the aim of greater tourism development, while a key element of the scheme will be the digital identification of participants for security.
Geoffrey Lipman, assistant secretary-general of UNWTO, said: "The time is right to take advantage of new technologies to advance the UNWTO Global Code of Ethics.
"The explosion of social networks fits perfectly with the spirit of the responsible and sustainable tourism that we are seeking to encourage."
Last month, luxury travel services provider for the lesbian market Olivia launched an interactive social networking site, expanding the company from a gay and lesbian travel brand to an online destination.
