08 September 2006 UK holidaymakers hoard foreign cash British travellers are coming home from their trips abroad with £920 million worth of unused foreign currency, a new report claims.
While some will no doubt use the money on future trips when they take advantage of their annual travel insurance, the Post Office has expressed concern that much of it will be wasted.
With the average Brit returning home with £27.78, the amount consumers are bringing back has increased by 64 per cent in the last two years.
Kevin McAdam, head of travel services at the Post Office, said: "It's easy to stash your leftover foreign notes and coins in a drawer when you get home from your travels and forget about it.
"But with one in five of us claiming to bring back £50 or more, it's shocking to discover that so much money is being wasted."
With Britons reportedly spending ever increasing amounts on holiday, adding to the cost of essentials like multi trip insurance and clothes, they are being urged to not waste any money put away and forgotten.
