05 July 2007 UK airports 'operating normally' after terrorism alerts
The Airport Operators Association (AOA) has said that despite the security alerts at Glasgow Airport last weekend, airports across Britain are now running normally.
Holidaymakers may experience delays entering terminals as a result of the imposition of new restrictions on vehicle access, the association notes, but in terms of in and outbound flights, the airports themselves are operating as usual.
Chris Goater, head of media and public affairs at the AOA, said: "I do not anticipate major problems from the current situation in terms of people going on holidays and so on.
"Airports are operating normally and people can certainly go on their holidays and visit their families and friends."
He advised travellers to use public transport where possible, warning of possible congestion on the roads approaching airports.
The AOA is the trade association that represents 71 airports in the UK and is often consulted by regulatory authorities and the government on relevant matters.
In March 2007, the association criticised proposals by the Conservative Party to introduce higher taxes on aviation as unworkable and ineffective for their intended environmental aims.
