12 January 2006 Travellers urged to check travel insurance policies
Travellers taking advantage of their annual travel insurance by booking a winter ski holiday have been urged to ensure that they have the right level of cover.
Insuresupermarket.com has told skiers and snowboarders that money could be saved by avoiding the high street and shopping around instead for multi-trip travel insurance deals with smaller providers.
"If you're planning a ski holiday this winter it's essential to shop around for insurance," advised Richard Mason, director of insuresupermarket.com.
"Don't assume that all travel policies are the same, or that they will cover you for everything that might go wrong. Some policies won't even cover you for activities such as ice-skating or tobogganing so it's always best to check what's covered, as many policies, particularly the no-frills cover, can be very limited," he added.
Skiers and snowboarders should try to avoid consuming too much alcohol, the insurance monitor commented, as most travel insurance providers will not cover people for accidents that happen while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
