20 June 2006 Travellers should plan to save cash
Despite the recent spell of hot weather in the UK the travel industry is still expecting Brits to have made more than 70 million overseas journeys by the end of the year, many of whom will fail to take out travel insurance.
If holidaymakers are looking save money they should prepare before heading off into Europe and beyond, the Times reports.
For those making a number of trips this summer, taking out a multi trip travel insurance policy would be the most economical option, while those planning more adventurous activities should check that they are covered by their policy for all eventualities and injuries.
Also travellers planning to take their mobile phone overseas with them, while it can bring an element of added security, "should be aware of network operators' roaming charges" which can be as much as £2 to make a call £1.80 to receive one.
Finally, in addition to their annual travel insurance, holidaymakers going over to the Continent should ensure they have European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) to qualify for reduced-cost emergency medical treatment.
