05 March 2007 Travellers advised to head for 'reception free' destinations
An Australian touring travel agency has urged holidaymakers who feel the unwelcome urge to stay in touch with the office while abroad to try taking some time out in a "reception-free" destination where they can get away from it all.
The company reports that workers can potentially get addicted to the use of gadgets such as mobile telephones and personal digital assistants (PDAs) and has suggested a stay in remote destinations including Fraser Island and the Flinders and Purnululu national parks.
Australian Pacific Touring (APT) reports: "When APT first started operating, mobile phones would have been a futuristic dream.
"Today, finding a holiday where your mobile might not work can be a challenge."
The company notes that these specialised trips can be taken in isolation, or as part of a longer tour of Australia.
In 2005, annual travel insurance provider Direct Line reported that 85 per cent of Britons will take a mobile phone abroad with them, while six per cent will carry a PDA or personal speakers.
