16 August 2006 Travel insurance generates ""very few complaints""
The travel insurance industry is acting "very responsibly", according to Mark Tanzer, the chief executive of the Association of British Travel Agents (Abta).
Mr Tanzer added that since new exams were introduced for those working within the insurance industry, they have received "very few complaints about the sale of insurance".
The chief executive also said earlier this month that he was wary of further of additional holiday insurance regulation as it could result in "inconvenience to our customers, many of whom would probably choose to travel uninsured".
However, in regards to regulating the travel insurance industry, the Mr Tanzer did state that there was still more do in terms of tackling those that are not Abta members.
Abta represents around 2,000 travel agents in the UK. It aims to maintain the "highest standards" among its members and also seeks to regulate them via a code of conduct.
The association also highlights research carried out by Mori which shows 83 per cent of British travellers "recognise Abta's name".
