14 April 2006 Travel insurance firms may get .travel address Companies dealing in annual travel insurance may be able to register for domain names ending in the suffix .travel if new proposals are approved.
The Travel Partnership Corporation (TTPC), responsible for the administration of the new .travel top level domain (TLD), has recommended the inclusion of the travel insurance sector and travel training institutions in a list of approved applicants for the domain.
It was announced at the WTTC Global Travel Summit, a conference of tourism industry leaders in Washington, thatthe sector specific .travel web address has been approved by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).
The .travel registration policy change, adopted at a meeting of the organisation in Berlin, is under consideration and, if approval is granted, it will make it easier for consumers to locate multi-trip travel insurance for their trips.
TTPC chairman Birger Backman said: "We are pleased to offer the opportunity to register .travel domain names to bona fide travel service providers in the framework of established practices and policies put in place for the good of the industry."
The sectors currently approved to apply for .travel web addresses include airlines, theme parks, vehicle rental companies, cruise lines, hotels, restaurants, travel agents and tour operators.
