06 December 2006 Travel insurance a 'must have'
Single trip or annual travel insurance is an essential purchase for trips abroad, travellers have been informed.
The US Travel Insurance Association has listed five examples to highlight the advantages of travelling with cover.
It lists family illness, accidents back at home, illness while abroad, baggage loss and delays and cancellations as a result of bad weather as typical examples
"If you're flying this holiday season, travel insurance is a 'must-have'," the association reports.
The association adds that airlines are not legally obliged to provide holidaymakers with accommodation in the event of flight cancellation occurring as a result of bad weather, while a single or multi trip insurance policy can cover for accommodation and other expenses in such circumstances.
In July, Sainsbury's Bank Travel Insurance reported that approximately 4.14 million UK travellers were forced to cancel their holiday plans abroad due to unforeseen circumstances.
