02 January 2007 Travel agents to hit busiest time of year
People in the UK may see the start of the new year as an idea opportunity to purchase annual travel insurance and book their trips abroad for 2007, as it is reported that travel agents are set to face their busiest selling period of the year.
The Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) reports that the first two months of the year are the busiest time of year for travel agents, with as much as 40 per cent of all holiday bookings for the year made during January and February.
Mark Tanzer, chief executive of ABTA, said: "We are expecting this year to break all records for customers travelling abroad.
"The UK travel market offers some of the highest standards and best value in Europe."
He also called on the government to review its decision to introduce a "steep" increase in air passenger duty.
Last month, travel insurance provider swiftcover.com recommended that travellers purchase multi trip insurance in January if they intend on taking more than one trip abroad during 2007.
