09 November 2005 'Ski rage' highlights need for insurance
As statistics show that one in five British tourists have experienced 'ski rage', a leading insurer has called on people to check the status of their travel insurance.
The ability to become slightly blasé about insurance may be tempting once covered by annual travel insurance, but Lloyds TSB has advised people to check exactly what they will be covered for.
The calls come after a survey conducted by the insurer found that rising tension on the slopes due to incidents such as being cut up by another skier, or having someone bump into them, could be leading to an increase in claims.
Phil Loney, managing director at Lloyds TSB Insurance, said: "A winter sports holiday may mean ice cold temperatures, but in many cases, tempers are anything but cool.
"The stress of the slopes, with 'ski-schoolers' practicing snow ploughs and the pros hurtling down the black runs is bound to test even the most mild-mannered skier."
Mr Loney added that checking the status of holiday insurance is a "must". Research carried out earlier this month by another insurer found that winter sports injuries could cost the injured person up to £10,000 if not adequately covered.
