30 June 2006  Short trips need insuring too
Festival-goers and those planning short breaks this summer, in addition to their main vacation, are being advised to factor these trips in when purchasing travel insurance.

According to new figures released by moneysupermarket, theft of personal possessions accounted for 90 per cent of reported incidents at the Reading Festival last year, many of which would not have been covered by travel insurance.

Cancellation and medical emergencies are also factors to take into account when paying out around £100 for a music festival ticket, especially if people are planning to travel further afield to events in Europe.

An annual travel insurance policy could be the best way to ensure all trips taken over the summer are covered, director of insurance at moneysupermarket, Richard Mason, suggests.

Mr Mason commented: “If you’re camping at the festival itself and taking valuables with you, such as mobile phones, MP3 players and digital cameras, then insuring these personal possessions against loss, damage or theft should be top of your list.

"Festival-goers should factor in these short breaks alongside their other holiday plans when weighing up whether to take single trip or annual travel insurance."

Some of the UK's main summer events include T in the Park in Kinross, Scotland on July 8th and 9th, V Festival on August 19th and 20th and the Leeds and Reading festival on August 25th to 27th.
