20 October 2005 Short breaks cause holiday stress
More than 20 million people are expected to treat themselves to a short break this autumn, according to new research from Post Office travel services.
However, many people find preparation for shorter trips away a stressful time.
The reason for this could well be that people do not leave themselves as much time to organise for their trip compared to a two-week holiday, even though all the same things still need to be done.
Of those going away for a longer holiday, 68 per cent start preparing more than a month in advance, but of those going on short getaways, 61 per cent give themselves less than a week to get everything ready.
Furthermore, the nature of a short break implies more than one trip will be made during the year, so annual, multi-trip insurance is recommended as cover.
Hugh Stacey, head of travel services at the Post Office, said: "Nearly half (44 per cent) of all UK holidaymakers took more than one trip abroad last year.
"If you are likely to travel more than once in the year, we advise people to consider taking out an annual travel insurance policy which covers all trips in the UK or abroad."
