23 August 2006 Post Office recommends annual travel insurance

The Post Office has suggested that people are stretching their holiday budget further than before and has recommended multi-trip insurance as a way to reduce costs.
Due to an increased number of holidays, the average spending budget for a week's break has fallen to £288 from £303 in the last two years, despite an increase in total spending overseas.
Kevin McAdam, head of travel and leisure at the Post Office, has warned that taking more and longer holidays requires careful planning of holiday funds.
"UK travellers can plan their holiday spending more effectively in a number of ways.
"For anyone travelling more than once per year, we recommend taking out an annual travel insurance policy, which can offer significant savings when compared to single trip policies."
An Alliance & Leicester survey in March 2005 claimed that UK holidaymakers taking two or more holidays a year wasted nearly £500 million buying travel insurance for each break, rather than multi-trip insurance.
The research stated that whilst 67 per cent of people take more than one holiday that only 27 per cent of holidaymakers buy annual travel insurance.
