12 July 2007 Multi-trippers 'taking more holidays in the UK'
Britons who take at least two holidays a year are increasingly likely to spend at least one of their breaks in the UK, the British Resorts and Destinations Association has claimed.
While holidaymakers in the past may have picked up their annual travel insurance to head to a swathe of foreign countries in the space of a year, multi-trippers will often now opt for one holiday abroad and one domestic break.
The association has claimed that a combination of environmental concerns regarding the effects of the aviation industry on climate change and an enhanced understanding of the quality of domestic holidays are responsible for this shift.
Peter Hampson, director of the group, said: "We're no longer in the days of the one holiday a year market, people are taking lots of holidays [and] breaks.
"People are choosing the domestic option, partly because of the realisation that [they aren't] all naff and nasty [and] partly because of this environmental issue."
In August 2004, Saga reported that the need for single or multi trip insurance is "often overlooked" by holidaymakers taking breaks within the UK.
