08 March 2006 Millions at risk without travel insurance Sainsbury's Bank (SB) has expressed a warning over the large numbers of UK tourists who travel abroad each year without travel insurance.
According to SB's research, roughly 3.3 million people travelled abroad last year without being covered by an insurance policy, totally 13 per cent of all those who holidayed in foreign countries.
Young people were found to be the least likely to adequately insure themselves, as over one million of 16 to 24-year-olds took a holiday without buying an insurance policy.
With the growing number of travel insurance policies on the market, holidaymakers are being encouraged to shop around for cheap deals, and to consider saving further money by purchasing an annual travel insurance policy.
"By shopping around, you can find quality cover at a competitive price," commented Karen Preston, SB's travel insurance manager.
"The largest number of travellers going on holiday without insurance seem to be the under 24s so we are urging them in particular not to forget travel insurance and to make sure its on their holiday 'to-do' list along with sun lotion," she added.
