25 October 2005 Lost Inca city tops wonders of the world poll Awe-inspiring far flung destinations such as Machu Picchu and the Taj Mahal have topped a recent poll of for people's wonders of the world.
According to Travelbite, the poll conducted by Wanderlust magazine found that Machu Picchu was the number one attraction in the world, with the temples of Angkor, Cambodia, coming in second and the Taj Mahal in India in at third.
Travellers could take advantage of their multi-trip insurance and work their way through a list of attractions in countries ranging from the Galapagos Islands, Ecuador to the Far East's Great Wall of China.
Lyn Hughes, Wanderlust's editor in chief, commented on the findings: "To explore any of these seven requires a great sense of adventure, but they truly represent the most amazing travel experiences on the planet."
The Great Pyramids in Egypt, the only surviving wonder from the original list of the seven wonders of the ancient world, came in at eight.
The survey was conducted on 3,500 travellers, and has created a list of 75 wonders of the world deemed unmissable.
