21 June 2007 Long haul holidays 'proving popular' The number of people taking package holidays to long haul destinations is increasing, according to the Association of British Travel Agents (Abta).
Sean Tipton, spokesperson for Abta, said that while the number of people taking package holidays to the traditional Mediterranean destinations is declining, those opting for long haul holidays are increasing.
This could mean more people taking out multi trip insurance to cover more than one long haul holiday a year, with such resorts becoming among the most popular.
"The traditional package holiday around the Mediterranean is definitely in decline. But what is actually growing is the number of people opting for new package tours to long haul destinations," Mr Tipton said.
He placed this down to people being "more adventurous now" and added that the sector is "growing very fast".
Abta represents firms responsible for around 90 per cent of package holiday sales, according to the organisation's website.
