23 December 2005 Holidaymakers play with insurance risk
Holidaymakers are playing with serious financial risks by delaying taking out their holiday insurance until the last minute, according to latest research.
Conducted by Saga, the survey found that four out of ten people leave the decision to take out a holiday insurance policy until the last minute.
As 35 per cent of claims are for unexpected cancellation, many people are leaving themselves completely unprotected should their trip need to be cancelled.
Highlighting the importance of annual travel insurance for year-round piece of mind, Saga's research also found that people are increasingly willing to try out more adventurous and adrenalin-fuelled activities.
"Our advice to anyone planning a holiday is to ensure that insurance is in place as soon as you have booked your holiday," Andrew Goodsell, group chief executive at Saga, said.
Research released earlier this month found that not only do people leave taking out a policy until the last minute, but that many are wasting money by taking out single trip policies when in reality they will go on numerous holidays throughout the year.
