06 March 2007 Highland games to take place in Kansas
For Scots and all other Britons interested in traditional highland games who would rather travel further than north of the border for an autumn break, the McPherson Kansas Scottish Festival is hosting a highland games event.
Competitors over the age of 40 from the US, Canada and Europe will compete for nine official world championship titles in various events, from caber tossing to the Scottish hammer.
Other attractions at the festival include music and dance, clan genealogy and arts and crafts for children, while the highland games are followed by the Masters Strongman Nationals.
John Ferrell, chairman of the event, said: "The festival is pleased to host two such prestigious masters athletics events."
He added that the games expect around 100 entrants from both the US and around the world.
The McPherson Scottish Festival and Highland Games will take place from September 22nd-23rd 2007.
