18 October 2006 Frequent holidaymakers 'throw money away' British travellers who head abroad more than once a year are wasting money by not purchasing multi trip insurance, it has been claimed.
Online travel insurance provider, swiftcover.com, reports that 55 per cent of Britons travel at least twice a year, while only 45 per cent buy annual travel insurance for their trips.
The survey also found that while 84 per cent of travellers purchase travel insurance for their main annual holiday, 19 per cent do not purchase cover for any subsequent trips and 16 per cent do not buy any cover at all.
Craig Staniland, underwriting director of swiftcover.com, said: "When it comes to insurance, many people fail to take advantage of cheaper travel insurance with annual cover to suit their changing needs."
He added that purchasing annual travel insurance can save both money and time, as those with a multi-trip policy need not take the time to organise separate cover for each holiday.
Last summer, the Post Office also advised holidaymakers travelling more than once a year to take out an annual travel insurance policy.
