19 October 2005 Eurostar gains in popularity
Eurostar, the high-speed train service that connects travellers and business people from London to Paris and Brussels, has seen passenger numbers rise during the first nine months of 2005.
The number of people using the service increased from 5.4 million in 2004 to 5.63 million this year.
With more people making the easy journey to France or Belgium, they will want to ensure they have annual multi-trip travel insurance to cover them.
In August, Eurostar captured 71 per cent of the air/rail market between London and Paris and 64 per cent of the London to Brussels market.
Furthermore, the number of business travellers using the service rose by 15 per cent.
Eurostar's director of communications, Paul Charles, commented: "Our market share has risen to record levels on the most competitive routes in Europe.
"Travellers are recognising the beauty of high-speed rail, which is environmentally superior to airlines, as well as being far more comfortable in terms of journey quality."
