10 May 2007 Eurostar announces high speed rail link
British travellers with annual travel insurance looking to head to the continent without having to drive to the centre of London could soon take advantage of the first high-speed rail line in England.
Eurostar reports that with services to Europe launching from St Pancras International station in November this year, the High Speed 1 rail link will take passengers from Ilford in Kent to London Liverpool Street station - connected to St Pancras by a short underground journey.
Richard Brown, chief executive of the train service, said: "Our new stations combined with High Speed 1 will unlock the power of Eurostar for people living in Ilford."
He added that the firm is providing competitive fairs together with improved connections with domestic travel services resulting in speedier journeys to France and Belgium.
Currently, the major Eurostar stations are at Waterloo in London, Gare du Nord in Paris and Brussels South in Belgium.
