09 March 2006 EU's culture and history trump terrorism fears Tour operators have expressed genuine optimism about how the industry will fare in Europe during the coming months, according to a new report.
Conducted by the European Tour Operators' Association (ETOA), the survey of more than 300 leading tour operators found that the industry expects to benefit from transactions of over 60 billion in the coming season.
High optimism was evident as 85 per cent expect holidaymakers to spend the same amount or more than last year.
"These findings are encouraging and highlight the resilience of our industry," commented Tom Jenkins, ETOA's executive director.
Although the vast majority of the operators surveyed said that they believe Europe's culture and history were the main draw factors to the continent, fears over terrorism were felt by just under half to be a potential threat to inbound tourism.
Travellers from the UK planning to head to the continent on numerous trips should be aware that they should arrange annual travel insurance to cover for illness while abroad, as the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) does not necessarily cover all the services that are available on the NHS in Britain.
