24 August 2007 Direct flights boosting Cape Verde travel
Increasing numbers of property investors and tourists alike are heading to the Macronesian archipelago of Cape Verde as a result of the availability of direct flights to the islands from the UK, it has been claimed.
Property advice firm BuyAssociation reports that such flights were launched last year, with 2007 being the first summer that Britons could fly directly to the islands.
Paul Collins, overseas editor of the firm, said: "This is really the first season where it has been really easy to get there, so yes - we certainly would expect to see tourist numbers increasing quite significantly over the next few years."
He added that British holidaymakers now tend to investigate what locations are available from low-fare airlines before electing to choose a travel destination.
In May 2007, American Express reported that discount air fares have increased the ability of Britons to take regular trips to visit friends and family overseas.
The firm advised frequent fliers to purchase annual travel insurance in order to cover all the journeys they take over the course of a year.
