04 February 2006 Demand for annual travel insurance growing
Post Office has acknowledged the growing need for annual travel insurance by reducing the price of its policies.
The changing needs of travellers have been the driving forces behind the decision, the insurer claims, as increasing numbers of people are taking more trips abroad throughout the year.
Such a trend has been attributed to the rise of the internet in finding and booking holidays as well as the low fares of budget airlines.
"Changing habits in travel mean that people go abroad more frequently than ever before with business trips and short breaks supplementing the traditional summer holiday," commented Hugh Stacey, head of travel services at the Post Office.
"This means annual policies really can be better value for money for travellers giving them cover and peace of mind the whole year through," he added.
Multi-trip travel insurance has in the past included ski and winter sports cover, although some insurers are now offering these as an optional add-on.
Such a move reflects the need to tailor annual travel insurance to holidaymakers who plan on taking numerous trips throughout the year without a skiing holiday being one of them.
