02 September 2006 Datamonitor: Minority picks annual travel insurance
A report published this week suggests that most UK holidaymakers are choosing to buy separate cover rather than multi trip travel insurance.
Datamonitor's research into the travel insurance industry claims that 40 per cent of cover bought is for annual travel insurance, with the remainder of 60 per cent electing to buy single trip cover for each break they take.
It reports that: "The likelihood of someone covering their travel with an annual policy increases with age.
"Consumers earning over £40,000 per year are more likely to buy annual policies than single policies."
The report also claimed that while Britons are more likely to take European holidays, the number of trips to more esoteric destinations is increasing.
Travel insurance companies have generally advised customers that if they intend to travel more than once in any 12-month period that it will often be more cost-effective to purchase annual travel insurance, irrespective of their age or income.
