09 August 2007 Couples 'can save money' on weddings abroad
Couples wanting to combine a perfect holiday with the best day of their lives who are perhaps worried about the possible expense have been advised that a wedding abroad can in fact be cheaper than tying the knot back home.
Wedding arranger WeddingsAbroad.com reports that more than a tenth of weddings now take place abroad, with sunshine almost guaranteed with the right destination and less stress and expense involved in the organisation.
Kate Thornton-Brown, managing director of the firm, said: "If you mention [a] wedding to a supplier in the UK... the cost of anything and everything soars.
"A wedding abroad can be done for as little as £700. The average cost of a UK wedding in 2007 is almost £20,000."
She advised those about to marry abroad to purchase additional cover over and above their standard single or multi trip insurance in order to protect against the risk of cancellation from adverse weather or a lost dress or rings.
In June 2007, Halifax urged recently-wed couples to make sure they have sufficient home insurance to cover the value of their newly-acquired possessions.
