Britons purchasing single trip or annual travel insurance have been advised that neglecting to disclose any pre-existing medical conditions to their insurer can invalidate their policy.
multi trip insurance provider Insurancewide.com notes that insurance is essential to cover holidaymakers for potential medical costs incurred abroad, in addition to protecting against the cost of lost possessions and cancellation.
James Harrison, chief executive of the firm, told BBC Breakfast: "Shop online to make a thorough comparison and compare like with like."
He added that the details of a single or multi trip travel insurance policy are essential, urging holidaymakers to check for limits, optional extras and exclusions to their policy to ensure they are fully aware of their level of cover before travel.
The company notes that any savings made by failing to disclose pre-existing medical conditions to an insurance firm will be a false economy, as the travel insurance policy may well be invalid as a consequence.
In November 2006, financial services comparison firm moneysupermarket.com advised travellers to check the details of their cover, noting that sometimes items such as spectacles may be excluded.
