22 February 2007 Consumers 'back regulation of travel insurance'
British consumes have expressed support for government plans to regulate the sale of single trip and annual travel insurance, according to recent research.
A survey by the British Insurance Brokers' Association (Biba) reveals that 97 per cent of consumers support government proposals regarding the regulation of travel insurance sales to prevent travel agents not fully explaining the contents of their policy.
Eric Galbraith, chief executive of Biba, said: "Travel insurance is vital when we jet off on our holidays and it is the role of the provider to ensure that consumers are both fully covered and understand the limits of their policies."
He added that the regulated travel insurance industry itself already followed these guidelines, with the proposals compelling tour operators and travel agents to also comply.
Last month, Sainsbury's Bank urged those booking their holidays to shop around for the best price on single or multi trip insurance, warning that travel agent prices may be more expensive than other policies on the market.
