01 August 2007 Budget airlines 'revolutionise' travel
The introduction of low-fares airlines into the travel industry has revolutionised the way in which Britons book their holidays, it has been claimed.
While a decade or so ago, prospective travellers may have waited until the last minute to snare a bargain, it ha reported that they are now more likely to book early for a cheaper flight.
Samantha Day, press office manager for easyJet, said: "Because with low-cost airlines it is best to book in advance for the best prices, people are incentivised financially to book and make those decisions early."
Ms Day added that - as a consequence - such airlines have revolutionised the way in which the travel industry operates.
In 2005, the Post Office reported that 44 per cent of UK holidaymakers took more than one trip abroad during the previous year, with the firm advising those heading overseas twice or more in 12 months to opt for an annual travel insurance policy.
