10 October 2006 Brits spend £92.3bn on holidays
New research published this week has claimed that Britons spent £97.3 billion on holidays this year, with billions being spent on the holiday itself, spending money, single trip or multi trip insurance, car hire and other expenses.
The survey by AXA Insurance found that 53 per cent of people take between one and three holidays a year, with one in ten taking four or five trips abroad each year, some of who will be covered by annual travel insurance.
Nick Kidd, head of lifestyle protection and household claims, AXA Insurance said: "With so much being spent on holidays and travelling abroad, it is more important than ever to have travel insurance.
"However, in the excitement of booking a trip many people forget to buy their cover or wrongly assume they don't need it."
This summer Portman Building Society claimed that many British holidaymakers were "wasting money" purchasing single-trip, rather than annual travel insurance when they take multiple trips abroad.
