17 December 2005 British skiers drunk on the slopes
British skiers are adding an extra level of danger to the slopes as new research found that they drink three and a half times the UK's recommended number of alcohol units.
Adding to the dangers of an already precarious activity, male skiers consume an average of 100 units of alcohol during a week's holiday while females drink roughly 71 units.
Over half of those surveyed by Halifax Travel Insurance believe après ski to be an "essential" or "very important" part of their holiday.
"It's important that people remember to limit their drinking to sensible levels while enjoying their winter sports holidays - especially as the majority of travel insurance policies will exclude accidents which occur whilst the policyholder is under the influence," advised Vicky Emmott, senior underwriter at Halifax Travel Insurance.
Emphasising the importance of annual travel insurance for those taking both summer and winter holidays, Ms Emmott added that it was vital to be covered by insurance with substantial medical and personal accident cover in case "you become the victim of someone else's reckless behaviour".
