15 September 2006 Annual travel insurance tipped to save money
Purchasing annual travel insurance rather than cover for a single trip can save money, a price comparison website reports - even if you only take one holiday a year.
An adviser from MoneySupermarket.com aimed the tip at elderly travellers, but the advice on using multi trip insurance to save money is applicable to all who only take a single trip abroad annually.
Richard Mason, a spokesperson for the website said: "An annual policy covers you for an unlimited number of holidays each year, but it is only a fraction more expensive than a single trip policy.
"So the thing to do is to take the policy out for the last two weeks in July and then next year go on holiday in the first two weeks."
Mr Mason claimed that by using this method travellers on a budget could "almost" be buying two years cover for the price of one.
Last month the Post Office advocated the purchase annual travel insurance for UK holidaymakers taking advantage of budget airlines and last minute deals to make multiple trips abroad.
