Holidaymakers are being urged to reconsider their travel insurance plans for next year as a recent study showed that Brits are wasting £546 million each year on the wrong insurance.
Research conducted by Churchill Travel Insurance found that there is a serious lack of awareness about the advantages of annual travel insurance.
Two-thirds of travellers buy single-trip policies, despite the likelihood of numerous trips, missing out on the cost-saving benefits of multi-trip travel insurance.
"By taking out a separate insurance policy for each trip, travellers are wasting both valuable time and money," said Mike Ketteringham, head of Churchill Travel Insurance.
"It would make greater financial sense and be far less time consuming for them to purchase an annual policy," he added.
Low-cost travel and short breaks have changed people's attitudes to taking holidays, but the research suggests that people's attitudes to annual multi-trip insurance have not, reports thisismoney.co.uk.
People could save themselves a substantial amount of money if they did change their attitudes, for example somebody taking four holidays a year could pay roughly £135 for single-trip policies, while annual travel insurance could cost just £85.
