08 June 2006 Annual insurance proving more popular The annual travel insurance market is expanding more quickly than single trip policies, according to Irish insurance company Vhi.
A study of Irish travel insurance holders by the company found that 38 per cent of the population has travel insurance with over half of those policies being for annual travel.
This shows that the annual travel insurance market has increased by ten per cent in recent years.
The survey also revealed that unexpected medical emergencies, illnesses and protection of personal luggage and passports were identified as being the three most important reasons for taking out an annual travel insurance policy.
Director of marketing and business development at Vhi Healthcare, Declan Moran stated: "We would urge the 46 per cent of the population that travel abroad for leisure purposes without any travel insurance to consider the risks involved in doing so.
"When choosing a travel insurance policy study the terms and conditions carefully and make sure that you are fully covered for unexpected medical emergencies and illnesses arising from pre-existing conditions."
