14 May 2007 Annual cover 'makes last-minute trips hassle free'
Purchasing annual travel insurance can make last-minute trips abroad to visit friends or family a hassle-free experience, it has been claimed.
multi trip insurance provider American Express reports that the combination of the strong pound and success of low-fares airlines has seen Britons travel abroad more than ever before.
Research from the firm revealed a three per cent rise in the number of trips planned by UK residents for 2007, with a 12 per cent increase in short breaks abroad.
Joanne Field, marketing manager at American Express Insurance Services, said: "Discount air fares have dramatically increased our ability to travel and visit family and friends abroad - even just for the weekend."
The company cited the example of a customer, Marta Wesolowska, who travels at least eight times a year to visit friends and family, with Ms Wesolowska reporting that annual travel insurance is a cheap and simple means of purchasing "invaluable" holiday cover.
In June 2004, Alliance & Leicester reported that Britons waste £1.3 billion each year purchasing separate cover for each trip rather than opting for multi trip insurance.
