17 May 2007 Annual cover 'can be cheaper than separate insurance'
Britons that holiday abroad more than once a year have been advised that taking out annual travel insurance can prove a cheaper option than opting for separate single-trip protection on each of their journeys.
Financial services comparison firm MoneyExpert reports that while the average price of multi trip insurance is £113.86 and single trip cover is £42.86, cheaper annual insurance can also be found.
Sean Gardner, chief executive of the company, said: "Holidaymakers often think that single trip cover is simple and cheap, but the truth is it's often not best value for money."
"You are certainly paying for a quick fix."
He added that holidaymakers should not focus exclusively on the price when buying cover, urging that travellers check the level of lost luggage replacement and emergency cash available on their annual travel insurance policy.
In July 2006, Portman Building Society reported that 34 per cent of Britons say they go abroad between two and five times a year and many could be wasting money purchasing single trip travel insurance.
