24 July 2007 Airmiles customers 'are travel-savvy'
Consumers who collect airmiles with their daily shop are travel-savvy individuals interested in doing their bit to help in the battle against climate change while continuing to explore the world, it has been claimed.
Airmiles has over eight million members who amass points by spending at Shell, Tesco and other outlets, while the group reports that it has diversified its rewards in recent decades, with consumers offered domestic breaks and Eurostar tickets as well as air travel.
Sarah Wood, director of marketing and insight at the group, said: "We've done a lot of work on this over the last few years and it is definitely something that we are working on very hard at the moment."
She added that the firm is working with consultants on the development of a comprehensive sustainability policy to further promote the idea of green travel with the Airmiles scheme.
In March 2007, Goldfish reported that credit cards that enable people to collect Airmiles or other travel points are the third most popular choice of loyalty scheme for consumers, with such cards accounting for nine per cent of the market.
